How to bring an old photo to life
- Scan the print at 600 dpi, or photograph it flat in daylight with the phone parallel to it and no glare.
- Crop to the photo and upload it. Black and white, sepia and faded colour all work.
- Keep Old photo selected; choose 1:1 for a square or 9:16 for a phone Story.
- Press Make my video, then download the MP4 or send the link to family.

What you can do with one old photo
| You have | Choose | Result |
|---|---|---|
| A portrait of a grandparent | Old photo | Gentle blink, breath and smile |
| A wedding or couple photo | Old photo | Both people move a little, grain kept |
| Two separate photos of two people | Hug | The two of them in one warm hug |
| A serious studio portrait | Smile | A smile that reaches the eyes |
| A photo of a pet you miss | Pet | Head tilt, blink and tail wag |
Separate pages explain each one in detail: animating a loved one who has passed away, a hug with someone who has died, and a pet memorial video.
Making it with care
- Movement is small on purpose: a blink, a breath, a smile, a slight turn. It should feel like a memory, not a performance.
- Ask close family before you share a video of someone who has died — for some people it is comforting, for others it is too much.
- Only adults: photos where the person is a child are rejected, even old ones.
- No speech or lip-sync, and no putting words in anyone's mouth. Videos are silent; add music or a voice note yourself if you want.
- Keep the MP4. Videos stay in your account for 30 days, then are deleted, so download the ones that matter.

What MoveFrame will not make
Every photo is checked before anything is generated. If a check fails, nothing is charged.
- No nudity or sexual content, and no "uncensored" mode.
- No videos of children from uploaded photos. The baby template invents a fictional baby; it never animates a real child's photo.
- No celebrities, politicians or other public figures, and no face swap.
- Hug and baby templates ask you to confirm that both adults in the photos agree.
- Free videos carry a small watermark, and every video is labelled as AI-generated in its file data.
- See something wrong? Every video page has a Report link. We take reported videos down and answer within 48 hours.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Your first video is free, with no account and no card: Standard quality, 5 seconds, small watermark. After that, free daily credits (5 a day where available) depend on your region and how busy we are. To keep going, Pro is $9.90/month for 120 credits (about 24 videos), or a credit pack starts at $9.90 with no subscription.
How is this different from MyHeritage Deep Nostalgia?
Deep Nostalgia runs inside a MyHeritage account. MoveFrame makes your first video with no account, no email and no card, keeps the photo's original look instead of restoring it, and can also put two old photos together in one hug.
Does it colourise or restore the photo?
No. The photo keeps its grain, scratches and colours on purpose. If you want colour, colourise the scan first with another tool, then animate it here.
Can I animate a group photo?
Yes. Everyone gets a subtle movement. Faces should be at least the size of a thumbnail on the scan for the best result.
Can I animate a photo of my parents as children?
No. We do not animate photos of children, including old ones. Pick a photo where everyone is an adult.
How long does it take?
Most 5-second videos are ready in 40–90 seconds. 10-second and Max quality videos can take up to 3 minutes. You can keep using the page while it works.
What happens to my photos?
Photos are stored privately, used only to make your video, and deleted after 24 hours. Videos are kept for 30 days so you can download them, then deleted. They are private unless you share the link or enter the daily challenge. We never use your photos to train AI models.
